Employee Spotlight: Ryan Yount, Chemist & Lab Operations

At Troy Chemical, strong chemistry starts with a deep understanding of how finishing systems operate in the real world. Ryan Yount plays a key role in ensuring the products we develop perform reliably for customers in the field.

As the Chief Operations Officer/Technical Director, Ryan oversees Troy’s laboratory operations, managing quality control processes, regulatory filings, and product testing. His leadership ensures Troy’s chemistry consistently meets both performance and regulatory standards for customers.

But the lab is only part of the equation.

Ryan’s work is closely connected to the challenges manufacturers face every day. Whether evaluating a new formulation or helping replace a competitor’s product, his focus is on understanding the customer’s process and ensuring the chemistry supports their goals for quality, efficiency, and cost control.

We Act As An Extension of Your Team

As customers move toward more diverse substrates and leaner staffing models, Ryan sees Troy Chemical’s role evolving. “We act as an extension of our customers’ teams,” he says. “We stay ahead of regulatory shifts through groups like the CCAI so our customers don’t have to worry about what’s coming next.”

Understanding the Complexity of Pretreatment

Metal pretreatment often involves far more complexity than it appears on the surface. Many operations today run multiple substrates through the same finishing system, which requires chemistries capable of performing across a range of materials.

Ryan explains that success often comes down to understanding the details of the process.

“Cleaning chemistry can become especially complex in multi-metal applications,” he notes. “The key is understanding how the chemistry interacts with the substrates, the washer system, and the rest of the finishing process.”

That attention to detail enables Troy to assist customers in evaluating alternatives, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions that enhance both performance and efficiency.

Focused on Customer Success

For Ryan and the Troy team, the goal isn’t simply to deliver a product—it’s to help customers achieve better outcomes in their finishing operations.

That might involve identifying opportunities to improve process efficiency, recommending chemistry that reduces operating costs, or assisting a customer in transitioning from an existing supplier.

“Our focus is always on customer success,” Ryan says. “If we can help them improve their process and operate more efficiently, that’s a win for everyone.”

Investing in the Future

As Troy Chemical continues to grow, the company is also investing in its technical capabilities. An upcoming expansion of Troy’s laboratory will improve workflow efficiency and create additional space for testing, product development, and collaboration.

The expanded lab will allow Troy’s team to respond even faster to customer needs while continuing to develop innovative solutions for the evolving demands of metal finishing.

For Ryan, that investment reflects the company’s long-term commitment to both technical excellence and customer support.

“At the end of the day,” he says, “everything we do in the lab is about helping our customers succeed.”
